Consular Processing

Consular processing is one of the two main ways for someone to apply for a green card (lawful permanent residency) and enter the United States if they are outside the country. It involves applying for an immigrant visa through a U.S. embassy or consulate in their home country. Once the visa is approved, the person can travel to the U.S. and receive their green card upon entry.
